Hi Everyone
Boy have we been busy here at Butterflies. I will attach some photos to show what we have been up to.

This is one of the bookmarks that we have created because so many of us love to read each day. Reading has been the most popular hobby in our group, so we decided to make something to remind us of Butterflies and Broomsticks.

Week 1

Hi Everyone and Welcome

A big hello to all the new people who have started at Butterflies today and a welcome back to some of you who have returned. Today seemed like a whirlwind as we introduced each other, played a game and talked about what we learn at Butterflies & Broomsticks. The best part I thought was seeing us all making a butterfly using the old paper technique of origami. There were some interesting butterflies.

So as you all prepare your 3 items for next weeks discussions, take care and remember all those things we can do to make us feel good about ourselves.

Bye

Raising Resilient Children

Have just been reading a great book called Raising Resilient Children by Brooks and Goldstein. Their definition of resilience is exactly what B & B is working towards.
'Resilience embraces the ability of a child to deal more effectively with stress and pressure, to cope with everyday challenges, to bounce back from disappointments, adversity and trauma, to develop clear and realistic goals, to solve problems, to relate comfortably with others, and to treat oneself and others with respect.'
This I believe is the dreams and wishes of parents.

Final Class

Unfortunately we have finished our first group of B & B. We have had so much fun over the term and we were all very sad it had to end.
But the good news is that B & B will be back for Term 3 starting in Week 3.
Looking forward to seeing new B & B people and even some from the group before.
So stay tuned for more updates.

Happiness is like a butterfly
The more you chase it
The more it will elude you

But if you turn your attention to other things
It comes and softly sits on your shoulder.

Looking on the bright side of things

Today we were looking at positive and negative thinking.
Positive thinking means looking for the good things in what happens, in youself and in other people. It also means looking for at least one small good bit in every bad thing that happens.
So today we were focusing on looking on the bright side and believing that things will work out well or improve.
In our journals we created things that symbolised happiness e.g. rainbows, spring, flowers, colours etc

Butterflies and Broomsticks

Journaling  has been an important part  of this programme as we express our thoughts and feelings through art.

Week 3

Hi Everyone

This week we all got to talk about how we feel when we are out of control or anxious. We worked out different ways how to calm down.
There was lots of role playing this week, more iced biscuits to finish and our journals to work on.
We all got given homework which was to bring along to next week 3 things that help us to stay calm. Remembering they must fit in the paper bag. Photos or drawings are accecptable.

Week 2

Hi Everyone
This week we were talking about feelings and how everyone has them. They are necessary in your life, even the unpleasent ones.
So that is why we all need to be the boss of our own feelings.
This week everyone got the opportunity to icing some biscuits demonstrating a feeling. They also worked on decorating their journal filling it with their own thoughts and creativity.

Hope you all enjoy the photo.
